Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, faced another setback in the league as they secured a goalless draw against mid-table Monza on Friday, extending their streak of non-winning performances.
Walter Mazzarri’s squad, without the presence of banned strikers Matteo Politano and Victor Osimhen, found themselves in seventh place on the table with 28 points following this outcome.
Inter Milan leads the standings with 44 points, closely followed by Juventus in second place with 40 points.
Mazzarri’s frustrations reached a tipping point as his struggling team led to him receiving a yellow card in the 82nd minute. Meanwhile, Monza’s coach, Raffaele Palladino, was also sent off from the sidelines in the closing moments of the game.
Monza’s Matteo Pessina had a penalty saved by Mario Rui, who was penalized for handball, during the 65th minute. Napoli’s most promising opportunity materialized from a first-half attempt by Zambo Anguissa.
Inter Milan, currently leading the standings, is set to face Genoa in one of the two later games scheduled for Friday.
Victor Osimhen has also been included in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Afcon 2023, scheduled to take place in January.
