- Taiwo Awoniyi ‘out for months’ with groin injury
- Forest secures six wins in 14 games with Awoniyi in the lineup. Their only recent loss was to West Ham after he was substituted.
- Since May, Awoniyi stands among top scorers, with notable goals against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United, emphasizing his crucial role for Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has revealed that Taiwo Awoniyi underwent surgery and is set for an extended spell on the sidelines following a significant injury.
The forward, during the international break, had to withdraw from Nigeria’s National Team squad due to an exacerbation of a pre-existing groin injury.

Steve Cooper Said;
“It’s bad news on Taiwo. He’s had to have surgery and he is going to be out for months.
“We’ll support him and try to get him back as quick and as fit as he can be, but it’s a really unfortunate situation and a blow for him.
“He’s become an important player for us with the goals he’s scored and the goals he will score for us. He’s such a good guy and a good professional who is desperate to do well, so to get an injury like this is harsh on him.
“We’ve got to support him through the process of coming back stronger. He’s done that once before here and I’m sure he will give everything again like he did last time.
“You think about how well he did when he returned last season, I’m sure that’s given him a good reference point to come back to.
“We’ll definitely see him again this season, but it’s groin surgery so it will take a little while.”
In his initial 23 Premier League matches with Nottingham Forest, Taiwo Awoniyi netted four goals. His recent equalizer at West Ham, marking his return from injury, elevates his tally to 10 goals in just 14 games in the competition.
Last month, Awoniyi’s impressive run was disrupted by an injury against Brentford, and Forest felt the impact during his absence. Despite Chris Wood scoring two against Luton as his replacement, Forest couldn’t secure the win. Notably, the team faces a winless streak of 14 games when Awoniyi doesn’t start.
In contrast, with Awoniyi in the lineup, Forest has clinched six wins out of 14. Their only loss occurred to West Ham after his substitution. Awoniyi has truly flourished, showcasing his prowess with two goals at Chelsea, one against Arsenal, and another at Manchester United. Since May, only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have outscored him.
