Recent reports suggest that Jose Mourinho is eager for a possible third tenure as Chelsea manager, signaling a strong inclination towards returning to the club.
Amidst Chelsea’s recent struggles, current manager Mauricio Pochettino faces mounting pressure as his team slips into the bottom half of the Premier League table. Following a 4-2 defeat to Wolves, discontent within Stamford Bridge is evident, with some supporters chanting Mourinho’s name.
Currently without a managerial role since departing Roma in January, Mourinho has expressed his affection for Chelsea since leaving England. The Daily Mail reports that he would “love” the chance to return to Stamford Bridge once again.
In addition to his enduring connection with the club, Mourinho is drawn to the idea of returning to Chelsea for personal reasons. With his family residence a mere 200m from Stamford Bridge, it is known that his wife and children continue to reside in London.
While a return to Chelsea holds appeal for Mourinho, the decision ultimately hinges on Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali’s faith in current manager Pochettino. Despite a positive message of support from the owners after the recent Wolves loss, the future remains uncertain.
In 2004, Mourinho initially joined Chelsea as the inaugural appointment of the Roman Abramovich era. He secured two Premier League titles with the Blues before disagreements with the then-owner led to his departure in 2007.

Following successful tenures with Inter and Real Madrid, Mourinho made a comeback to Chelsea in 2013. Accompanied by players like Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, he secured another title before departing in late 2015.
Post his time at Chelsea, Mourinho had managerial spells with both Manchester United and Tottenham. However, he has consistently expressed his deep affection for the Blues, referring to them as “my Chelsea” in a Sky Sports interview last summer.
In his words, Mourinho emphasized:
“Chelsea will always be Chelsea. Chelsea will always be big, and my house will always be 200 meters away from the stadium, so I want to keep listening to the sound of happiness and success. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be like that.”
“Of course, my English connection is Chelsea. That’s the way I see things, as a Chelsea man after two periods of Chelsea and six years.”
