- Man City could have Kevin De Bruyne available for their upcoming match against Arsenal.
- The Belgian midfielder has been carrying a groin strain.
- He missed the recent FA Cup win over Newcastle and Belgium internationals.
Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne could be fit in time to face Arsenal in the significant Premier League title clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
De Bruyne missed City’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Newcastle United earlier this month due to a groin injury and subsequently did not join the Belgium squad for their matches against Republic of Ireland and England during the international break.
According to ESPN, there is “optimism” at City about De Bruyne being available for the Arsenal game. Despite most of the club’s senior stars being away, the 32-year-old is reported to have successfully completed a training session with the Under-23 squad on Tuesday without any issues.
By the time those who have been representing their various national teams begin reporting back for training on Thursday, De Bruyne is set to join them. This will provide the Belgian with up to three daily sessions to prove his fitness before matchday arrives on Sunday.
De Bruyne endured a challenging start to his 2023/24 season, with a hamstring injury suffered just 23 minutes into City’s Premier League opener against Burnley back in early August. He was sidelined for the best part of five months, missing the entire Champions League group stage and FIFA Club World Cup. However, upon his return, he suffered a groin strain after just 12 appearances, further complicating his season.
City trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by one point ahead of the weekend. Liverpool are also sandwiched between them, level on points with the Gunners but pushed into second place due to a slightly inferior goal difference.
With just ten games left to play for each team, this Premier League season is shaping up to be perhaps the most thrilling title race in history. Genuine three-horse races have been virtually non-existent in the past, adding to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the competition.
