Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, capping off an incredible season with the Premier League champions. The 23-year-old England international has been in scintillating form, scoring 16 goals and providing seven assists in 31 league appearances.
Foden’s versatility and consistency have been key to City’s success this season, with the attacker thriving on both wings and in his preferred central role. His impressive performances have earned him widespread recognition, with 42% of the votes going in his favor for the FWA’s top honor.
With Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne sidelined for extended periods, Foden has stepped up to the plate in remarkable fashion, demonstrating his value to Pep Guardiola’s side. His impressive form will also be a welcome boost for Gareth Southgate ahead of the Euros this summer.

Foden’s FWA award is a testament to his hard work and dedication, and he will be looking to continue his exceptional form in the coming seasons.
Declan Rice managed to hit the ground running at Arsenal.
Speaking about Foden’s victory, FWA chair John Cross, the Daily Mirror’s chief football writer, said:
“Foden got my vote and those of a huge number of other members. He has been outstanding this season and I think he has taken his game to another level.
“I love the way he glides across the pitch and is equally effective out wide and in the middle. He has been a joy to watch this season in City’s performances – and let’s hope he can maintain that form for England in the Euros this summer.”
Manchester City’s accolades didn’t stop with Phil Foden’s Footballer of the Year award, as Khadija Shaw also received recognition from the Football Writers’ Association, taking home the women’s award. Shaw’s impressive season has seen her score 21 goals in just 19 Women’s Super League appearances, playing a crucial role in her team’s rise to the top of the table. Unfortunately, her season has been cut short due to a foot injury, which will keep her sidelined for the remaining matches. Despite this setback, Shaw’s achievements have earned her well-deserved recognition from the FWA.
